As much as I appreciate a good barbecue sauce, I actually prefer dry rubs! They are extremely flavorful, and a lot healthier than adding a bunch of sauce. Plus, it’s kind of fun to create my own mixtures. It’s quick, simple, and can save you quite a bit of money! So, here are 6 of my favorite recipes!
**Note:This will produce about a cup of each dry rub, feel free to adjust the amounts accordingly! Also, these blends are easily tweaked— if you need low sodium, swap out the salt. If you like it spicy like me, add some extra cayenne pepper. Seriously, there is no need to buy dry rubs ever again!
1) All-Purpose Chicken Rub
- 4 tbsp brown sugar
- 4 tbsp paprika
- 3 tbsp salt
- 2 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp pepper
- 1 tbsp cayenne pepper
2) All-Purpose Steak Rub
- 4 tbsp salt
- 4 tbsp pepper
- 4 tbsp paprika
- 2 tbsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp cumin
- Pinch of onion powder, chili powder, and cayenne pepper
3) All-Purpose Pork Rub
- 4 tbsp paprika
- 4 tbsp chili powder
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tbsp white sugar
- 2 tbsp pepper
- 1 tbsp of garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
4) Blackened Dry Rub (Delicious on seafood!)
- 4 tbsp garlic powder
- 4 tbsp onion powder
- 3 tbsp paprika
- 2 tbsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tbsp pepper
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tbsp oregano
5) Herb and Lemon Pepper Dry Rub (Great on chicken.)
- 5 tbsp black pepper
- 4 tbsp lemon zest
- 2 tbsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp parsley
- 1 tbsp oregano
- 1 tbsp basil
6) Cajun Dry Rub (Caution: I like it hot!)
- 4 tbsp cumin
- 4 tbsp paprika
- 2 tbsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tbsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tbsp oregeno
- 1 tbsp red pepper
I typically just store my blends in old spice containers and throw a piece of tape on there for a label, but you’re welcome to buy shakers or mason jars!
