They say that there really is an app for everything, and grilling is absolutely no exception to that rule. If you’re looking to get the most out of your grilling experience, then there are plenty of apps that can help you figure out temperatures, time your cooking, provide tips and tricks, or simply offer some new recipes. Whether you’re a grill master or just getting the hang of things, one or more of these apps should definitely be on your device!
GrillTime
Available on iTunes for $1.99
This app is a combination of a grilling timer app and a grilling guide all wrapped up together in a nice package. users are able to select the cut of meat, the thickness, and the rarity. Then, the app provides the ideal temperature and time. It features a companion app on the watch, and provides useful things like a flip reminder. While it might not be great for super experienced grillers, it works well for gatherings where you might easily get distracted and need a reminder.
Green Egg Nation
Available on iTunes for free
One of the few apps designed specifically for ceramic grills, this handy little app has some fantastic information about temperatures, serving sizes, prep times, and plenty of recipes and information helpful for Kamado and BGE users. Although the app is free, there is a Pro Membership ($4.99/year) option which allows users to add their own recipes, create lists, and make notes. Some of the useful functions will require this membership, unfortunately, but you can try it for free first, which is nice.
The Pit Pal BBQ
Available on iTunes and Google Play for free
The biggest draw to this app is that it is basically a digital grill journal. Here, you can keep track of your grilling and input things like woods used, sauce/rub combos, and even things like the weather outside—all of which can make a slight difference in your end result. I firmly believe that everyone should have a grill journal, and this app is a simple way to do that.
Smoked!
Available on iTunes for $1.99
Smoking meat is an art. A really tasty art, and if you’re looking for a way to keep track of your meats in order to reproduce them time and time again, this app is a great choice. It features information about wood and food pairings, and allows users to record their recipes and set timers. There are also, of course, various tools to help with smoking including temperature charts, and a shopping list!
Grill It!
Available on iTunes and Google Play for $0.99
No one likes to eat the same thing over and over again, and unlike the other apps in this list, this app is really nothing more than a rotating recipe book. Users can search for a new recipe based on the meat or cut, and even view new recipes every month. The app features step by step instructions, but since it’s not optimized for ceramic grilling, it should be used partially as a guideline. Regardless, this app is pretty great if you’re the kind who grills frequently.
