As I write this post, there are only 28 shopping days left to Christmas, so I thought it would be helpful to write an article detailing my personal top 10 must-have Kamado grill items that would make absolutely perfect Christmas presents for your favorite grill-master.
Items on this list range in price beginning at less than $20, all the way up to over $1,000, so every Christmas shopping budget is sure to be accommodated.
Here we go!
1. Kamado Grill ($300 – $1,000)
I suppose it goes without saying that the number one item that each and every Kamado grill-master needs to have in their grilling arsenal is well, a Kamado grill! You have nearly a dozen different choices of Kamado grills to pick from and like anything else, each have their pros and cons, but as you may have read, I’m partial to the Kamado Joe brand. The Kamado Joe Kamado grills that I recommend are either the Kamado Joe Classic (when grilling for up to four people) or the Kamado Joe Big Joe (if grilling for more than four people).
Now, if that special someone on your Christmas list already has a Kamado grill, you can totally blow their minds by purchasing them a miniature, portable Kamado grill that’s absolutely perfect for travel, camping, and anywhere else where you want delicious grilled and smoked food while on the go! The Kamado Joe Joe Jr. is just the ticket!
Lastly, if you’re looking to purchase a Kamado style grill on a budget, take a look at the Char-Griller Akorn which can be had for less than $300!
2. Temperature controller ($349)
Imagine being able to throw a pork butt on your Kamado, setting a target temperature, and then carrying about the rest of your day without so much as the first thought about the grill or food temperature! Imagine simply receiving a text message when it hits the perfect internal temperature!
Well, with an automatic temperature controller, such as the highly regarded Flame Boss 200-WiFi Kamado Grill & Smoker Temperature Controller, you’ll recapture the time you would have otherwise spent fiddling with vents and checking settings as your food cooks. I’d love to own one of these if anyone feels compelled to buy me a Christmas gift!
3. Wireless thermometer ($59)
The wireless thermometer is one of the absolute must have Kamado cooking accessories and if the person you’re purchasing a gift for doesn’t already have one, this is an absolute no-brainer.
With a wireless thermometer, a probe can be set to monitor the temperature of the grill, while a second probe can be used to monitor the internal temperature of the food that’s being cooked. Alarms can be set to notify you if either setting goes above or below a desired threshold and because they offer digital displays and high quality heat shielding, they are incredibly accurate and safe for high heat cooks, up to over 570F.
The model I use and highly recommend is the Ivation Wireless Dual-Probe Wireless Thermometer.
4. Instant-Read Thermometer (Starting at $25)
When you’re grilling something fast and easy, it’s incredibly convenient to have an instant-read thermometer handy so you can quickly ensure the food is at a safe temperature before serving. An instant-read thermometer makes this about a 3 second job.
I ended up getting a great deal on the ThermoWorks Thermapen and absolutely love it, however they are on the expensive side. For a gift, you might want to consider this one at only $25. It has near-perfect reviews from over 600 customers and appears to work just as well as the more expensive Thermapen at a fraction of the cost.
5. Looftlighter ($69)
Trust me on this one – anyone with a Kamado grill who doesn’t already have a Looftlighter, wants one. This thing is just downright awesome.
Think of the Looftlighter like an electric blow torch. You simply plug it in, point it at the lump charcoal, and blast it with super heated air for about 30 seconds and before you know it, the coals are lit and you’re ready to cook. This grill lighting method beats the old lighter cubes by a mile.
6. Super Deluxe Grill Tool Set ($35)
Even if your gift recipient already has a grill tool set, odds are that it has seen better days and is in dire need of an upgrade. Grill tools always seem to be one of those things you purchase once and kind of forget about until they’re falling apart.
Well Cuisinart has you covered with this absolutely beautiful and functional set of grill tools that come complete in their own aluminum storage case – ensuring they’ll last season after season.
7. GrillGrates ($86)
Ever wonder how people get those picture-perfect grill marks on steaks? Well, a set of GrillGrates is all that’s needed!
By blocking flare-ups, GrillGrates allow your food to be cooked on a grill without subjecting it directly to the flame, eliminating the char that can sometimes come out looking a little less than desirable. During grilling, the raised panels on the GrillGrates become super-heated and leave expert-looking grill marks on your food each and every time.
8. Premium Steak Knife Set ($70)
Give a gift with a little class and consider an upscale set of premium steak knives. I’m a huge fan of Wusthof knives and this set of steak knives is absolutely beautiful.
This is another one of those items that would make an excellent stocking stuffer for myself, in case anyone’s looking for any ideas!
9. BBQ Grill Gloves ($15)
It seems that for one reason or another, there are plenty of times when I find myself making adjustments to my grill during cooking. Whether I’m adding or removing a heat deflector or rearranging food during a cook, my grilling gloves are what protect my hands from burns.
These are the ones I use and highly recommend.
10. Kamado grill cookbooks (price varies)
Lastly, for the grill-master who’s fortunate enough to already own everything on this list, you can’t go wrong with a Kamado grill cookbook! I’ve listed a few of my favorites here.
So there you have it. By now there should be absolutely no doubt as to what you’re buying your favorite grill-master for Christmas this year.
If you’re looking for additional gift ideas though, you’ll find THOUSANDS more over at the Kamado Jim Grill and Smoker Amazon shop where I’ve personally curated smoking and grilling accessories that any passionate griller would love to own.
Lastly, I’d love to hear from you guys as to what grilling-related items YOU either want or plan to give this year for Christmas! Please drop me a comment below!
